FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

General Questions

1.  You take a while to reply, why?  AMC is currently run as a part time business so it may take a short period to reply to you.  We aim to respond to all questions and queries within 72 hours.

2.  Your track days only cater for 'road going' cars, why? The Insurance that we hold, which enables us to operate, only covers road going cars to run on track. We operate with the permission and a Licence from the Land Owner and Manager. That Licence is based upon agreed activity that they will endorse, and allow. Unfortunately, we do not own the track and must operate within the rules issued by the Owner.

3.  I own a few cars, can I bring them all?  Yes, but each car must have it's own ticket.  You cannot bring several cars to the day and swap between them as the day progresses.  This rule also applies if your car breaks down, you can not swap to your spare car and carry on the day (unless you have specific permission from us).  Each ticket is sold for one car's access.

4.  I'd like to Marshall, can I help out?  Yes, if you'd like to help run an event then please get in touch with us via the messenger or email, our head Marshall will be in touch to explain the options and offers available to helpers.

5.  I'd like to come for a few hours and leave when I want, is that OK?  No. We use a military site for our track days and once you're on airfield we lock the gates as part of our license agreement.  We have planned opening times at lunch only.  If you want to leave outside of the lunch window, you must speak to the start line Marshall.  We will try our best to open the gate for you at the top of each hour, please try to give us notice that you wish to leave.  You must not drive and open your gate yourself!

Specific Track day/Car Questions

1. What do I need to bring? You need to bring your full UK drivers license, a UK DVLA approved helmet, clothes that cover all your arms and legs and your enthusiasm.

2. What car can I bring? These track days are aimed at enthusiasts, they are not test days.  Your car must be a ‘road’ car. It must have running lights (brakes, indicators, sides) and work in accordance with standard road going expectations.  A saloon race or rally car that meets this criteria is acceptable. Your car must also meet the sound restrictions for the day and be able to maintain this level throughout the day.  You can not bring your single seat race/hill climb/auto cross car or your drift car. Some specific details are below and also on Our Services pages:

a. The car must have road tyres. No slicks are allowed.

b. If the car is a soft top, you will be asked to keep the roof on unless you have a MSA/FIA ROPS and of 4 point harnesses. To drive with the 'top down' you will also require a full face helmet.

c. The car must be complete and 'road useable' (i.e. to MOT standards), please do not bring your 'nearly finished' project!

3.  What are the sound restrictions?  Your car must not be louder than 100Db measured from 0.5m away at 4500 rpm or 3/4 max rpm (depending on your car).  Cars with electronic restrictors that prevent a static test, will be subject to a drive-by test. The organisers reserve the right to monitor this and prevent vehicles running

4. I don’t have any track experience, can I still come?  Yes.  These are track days are for all, from experienced racers to compete novices.

5.  What driving standards are in place?  You will be expected to drive with respect to other drivers, in a safe manner commiserate to your car and skill and also in line with the Driver Standard monitors located around the track.  There is no overtaking on the corners, all overtaking is to be competed in the straights and to the side dictated by the track (you will be told this in the drivers brief). If at any point AMC feel your driving is not up to standard, is unsafe or is seen to be aggressive in any way you will be Black Flagged and could be ejected from the Track Day, this decision taken by the Chief Steward is final and can not be reviewed. Further detailed points are below:

  • Participants must not act or drive recklessly, dangerously or in an intimidating fashion, whether on track or otherwise. If in AMC's opinion you are acting dangerously, recklessly or in an intimidating fashion you may be removed from further participation in the track day and/or ejected from the venue, at AMC's discretion.

  • No participant shall consume or be under the influence of alcohol at any time during the track day.

  • No participant shall be under the influence of drugs or medication (prescribed or otherwise) or have any pre-existing medical condition that will adversely affect his or her performance during the track day.

  • No pregnant drivers will be permitted to participate, whether as a driver or passenger, in any track day.

  • No timekeeping or pace making of any sort is allowed on the track day.

  • Open top cars will only be permitted when fitted with a full MSA/FIA approved roll safety device, or other road homologated roll over safety device. Road homologated vehicles which do not have the above, but which are still in standard road homologated specification are permitted with their roofs on.

  • Participants must listen to all briefings and safety instructions throughout the track day, including flags, signals or warnings from marshals or any other representative of AMC. The decisions of AMC are final.

  • No paddock bikes or other forms of unlicensed motorised transport are to be used on the venue at any time.

  • No animals may be brought onto the premises, except registered guide dogs.

  • Lap timing is not permitted in any form. Products with the ability to time must be removed. Hardwired products/built in dash lap timers should be disabled so they cannot be switched on or the display fully covered up.

  • Participants continually striking cones will be Black Flagged.

6. Is my car covered by AMC insurance if I have an accident or break down?  No.  You are expected to arrange your own track day insurance.  Apex Motorsport Coaching accepts no liability for you or your vehicle whilst attending our track days, this includes any incidents with other users.  Apex Motorsport Coaching only provides the Third Party Liability Insurance to cover the event, in the event of an incident in which damage to the location is attributed to you, you will be liable to pay the insurance excess.

7. Are there many forms to fill out?  Unfortunately, yes, there are some simple forms to fill out.  You must do this to attend each event.  The forms will include a short Drivers Brief video that you must watch, a questionnaire and also a waiver that must be completed prior to arriving and driving.

8. Are there Spectators?  No unfortunately not, there is no spectators on AMC events.  Your support crew will be able to watch you from the start line but that is it.  There are no other viewing areas.

9. Can I take passengers out on track? Yes, as long as you have purchased a Passenger ticket and your passenger is at least 16 years old and has completed the waiver.

10.  Can I bring all my friends and family?  No, not really.  You can bring people to help run your car and support you through the day, but we would prefer you limit this number.  Ideally this would be the people you can fit in your car/tow vehicle.
